2020 will go down in history as one of the transformative years in recent time. Large social movements have taken place and big shifts in politics. Hopefully, these movements are not in vain.
A passage from The Lessons of History by Will and Ariel Durant really jumped out at me last night. It is :
“The only real revolution is in the enlightenment of the mind and the improvement of character, the only real emancipation is the individual, and the only real revolutionists are philosophers and saints”.
The enlightenment of the mind is what people should hope comes out of the worlds current divide. So while statues may have been toppled and the societal fabric has changed let’s hope the minds have also changed.
Trump leaving office will hopefully be a bookend to this great divide. The media also need to be held to account for profiteering of discourse. As a collective people will only be fooled so many times before they become desensitized. So the relevancy overtime for the media and Trump will wane and finally, the world will be able to heal.
